"The PLAXIS 3D model has given the designer the possibility to build an accurate model of the rock conditions where the real rock joint system can be modeled applying interace surfaces. "
During the construction of the Cairo Financial Center a nearby rock cut is subjected to detailed stability analysis. The rock cut contains a lot of joints, and consists of limestone sensitive to slaking. Stability of the current rock cut is investigated assuming wetted joint properties, and potential improvement to stability with rockbolt reinforments is explored.
