PLAXIS Coupling Tool

The PLAXIS Coupling Tool brings structural and geotechnical engineers closer together, allowing users to perform advanced nonlinear soil-structure interaction calculations with SAP2000 and PLAXIS 3D.  Users can select load cases from SAP and have the loads at the bottom of the SAP model transferred directly onto the subsurface model in PLAXIS 3D. In the coupling process, calculated displacements in PLAXIS are sent to SAP as updated spring stiffnesses. SAP then recalculates the resulting displacements and forces in the structural model, the process is repeated until a balance is found. The Coupling Tool also illustrates the power of the Python-based scripting environment in PLAXIS.

PLAXIS Customization

Plaxis started providing Customization services which involve producing tailored solutions that function as a shell around PLAXIS software. These tailored solution are for example coupling with structural software packages or parameter retrieval from soil databases. This year we successfully delivered several Customization projects to customers, including tailored solutions for probabilistic analysis. PLAXIS customization provides customers with reliable and interoperable tools that integrate PLAXIS seamlessly into your workflow.

BIM Workflow

The import of CAD files was already possible, but with PLAXIS 3D 2017 export of CAD files has been added, this allows better incorporation of PLAXIS in the BIM chain. The upcoming 2D will see a similar change. Integration into the BIM chain can be further complemented by using by using the scripting interface.

Import of point clouds (experimental)

PLAXIS 3D 2017 introduced experimental functionality generating a NURB surface based on imported point cloud data. Via the command line users can refer to a text file containing a point cloud, from which the surface is generated. A script is available to load the points itself as well, to verify the quality of the automatically generated surface. The tool can help users to directly use available data in PLAXIS, instead of doing pre-processing in CAD tools. This ensures PLAXIS can efficiently generate parametric surface out of the data, improving the quality of the generated mesh.
