External water pressures on structures above the soil incorrect in 2D CONNECT Edition V20

27 September 2019
Date modified 06 November 2019
Known issue ID SW-43155
Applications PLAXIS 2D CONNECT Edition V20

Problem description

The external water pressures on plate elements above the soil are not always determined correctly in PLAXIS 2D CONNECT Edition V20 when:

  • the plate is located above the soil
  • on one of the sides, there is no soil cluster defined
  • and the plate is subjected to external water pressures due to e.g. a high water level

See also the image below.

Solution

A workaround for this issue in PLAXIS 2D CONNECT Edition V20 is to create a dummy soil cluster at any side where originally no cluster is defined. Then in the phases, make sure to deactivate this dummy soil cluster.

Users are advised to check the external water loads value in the preview or view of any calculated phase, under Project menu>Water load information.
